Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy reading about my busy life with my husband of 30 years and our four sons and daughter-in-law. We are now empty nesters and my blog is helping me through the journey. I love the Lord and I love my family. I also love to decorate and go to thrift stores!
Meet Skeeter, the new love in my life! We've had him for about three weeks and he's just so wonderful!
Back in December of 2016 our precious kitty, MacGyver died of feline leukemia. It absolutely broke my heart. I loved MacGyver so much. He was only 6 years old. He was one of those rare cats who loved people and he would follow us around the property no matter what we were doing. He was an excellent hunter too and definitely helped keep the mice away! I was heartbroken and I didn't want anyone to "surprise" me with a new kitten. My loyalties lied with MacGyver. I knew one day I'd probably get a new cat, but I wanted to wait until I was ready.
Well, one day at the end of February, I saw a lady holding a cat in the grocery store. I pondered back and forth if I should approach her or not, but I finally did. I asked her if by any chance her cat might be pregnant (thinking maybe that's why she had her in the store with her) and if so, I wanted to let her know I would be interested in a kitten if she needed homes for them. She laughed and said, "No, he's a boy!" but she did go on to say that her neighbor took in a stray cat that came to her back door and then they found out it was pregnant. She went on to say that she thought the neighbor needed homes for the kittens! She said she would contact her for me and tell her that I was looking for a kitten. We exchanged information and I waited. I was so excited! I felt like after all of the loss I experienced this past winter, I was ready for a new little kitten!
On March 8th I received a text from her that her friend's cat had her kittens!
I contacted Cherie and she was just the sweetest lady. We talked for a bit and I could tell she wanted to make sure that I would be a good owner. I think I passed her test and we were all set for me to be able to pick one of the kittens out in a few weeks. In the meantime she sent me updates on the kitties! They are so cute!
On March 27th I went over for a visit and picked this little guy! Isn't he just so precious!
I named him Skeeter after the singer Skeeter Davis. My parents loved Skeeter Davis and played her music in our home quite often as I was growing up.
Also, I loved the character, Skeeter, in the movie, "The Help"played by Emma Stone. I know my little kitty is a boy, but the name fits him!
I love these pictures that Cherie took!
On April 7th I met my son, Mackenzie, and grandson, Ridley, at Cherie's to let Ridley see the kittens and to see how Skeeter is doing.
He's doing amazing and he's so stink'n cute! I had to wait another month before he would be 8 weeks old and ready to wean from his mamma before I could bring him home.
On April 28th she sent this gorgeous photo she took of all six kittens and said that the next week they would be 8 weeks and I could come over and get Skeeter.
On May 3rd, it worked out perfectly that I had Ridley that morning and he came with me to pick up the kitten. He was soooo excited!
We met Cherie at the door and she was holding Skeeter. Isn't she a cute lady! She's so nice and we have become Friends on Facebook now. Her house is so adorable too!
We visited a bit and then it was time to go. We put Skeeter in the crate and he said goodbye to his mamma and siblings. His mamma was concerned, but not overly. I was happy that it went pretty well and there was no crying involved!
Ridley and I packed up Skeeter in the car and headed home.
Skeeter didn't make a peep in the car.
Welcome to the farm little Skeeter, it's your new home! You're goanna love it here!
I think he's scared, but I'm thankful he's not crying.
Our dog, Blondie, came up to say hello, but Skeeter wanted nothing to do with Blondie!
In fact, there was a bit of back raring, tail fattening and hissing involved. Oh boy, I hope he will learn to love Blondie. We will make a slow and gradual introduction, hopefully they eventually will become friends!
We brought Skeeter into the house and opened the crate.
Come on out punkin and see your new home!
He was very cautious as he stepped out of the crate.
He was brave and looked around, but he was quiet and shy as well.
Isn't he beautiful!
Oh kitten, you fit perfect in my lap!
I love his markings!
I am so thankful that he never cried for his mamma!
Ridley loves him!
Ridley was so sweet and showed him his monster trucks.
Skeeter's wondering what those colorful things are!
Free buggy rides to all kittens!
Free bucket rides to all kittens!
He's so tiny!
Oh sweet baby!
Ridley loves Skeeter!
After nap we had snuggle time!
I set up a makeshift home for him in our powder room. It's working out great. I cat proofed it and it's completely safe for him. It's large enough to let him run around a bit during the day when we are at work. I put his bed, his food & water and his litter box in there.
I think Ridley is a cat person!
Skeeter, you are so darling!
You are beyond darling!!!!
I love having a kitten at my feet when I'm getting ready in the morning...
...when I'm cooking dinner....
...and when I'm doing the dishes....and also
...on my lap when I'm watching TV.
He's very busy and runs all over the house.
I love having a kitty looking out my window.
He really likes my new little chair I found at a rummage sale!
Oh how I love my new kitten. He has made my heart smile! I feel like things have lifted and God is restoring joy to my life!
