This blog is simply the story about my little life
with my sweet family that the Lord has blessed me with
and the day in, day out things that we do.
It basically is my online diary/photo album of our life.
I'm glad you're here!

The agony of defeat.....

So this is the flip side of that famous phrase...."The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat".
Hayden had been riding high, winning every race and making a PR at every track meet...until now.
He was invited to go to the Meet of Champions, which is such a great honor. Only the best kids in the whole state are invited. Hayden was actually one of the favorites to win.....but, that's not what happened. He had a bad race and he ended up taking 15th out of 23 guys. It was really sad. You can tell by the pictures above that he got out of the blocks really great and he was in first place for awhile, but he just didn't have the juice and he ran out of steam. We were heartbroken for him.
He was really down. Here he is talking with his best friend and his coach.
Eric and I tried to cheer him up. Here he is ready to go back to the team tent and prepare for the 200 race.
We were praying and hoping he would do well, but again, he did not do well at all. Poor Hayden. I don't know what happened. He's in a slump. He was so devastated. He's a really humble guy, so he's just disappointed in himself.
Here's Hayden, Alan, Aaron and Corbin warming up for the 4x400.
Now they are all lined up to check in and hear the rules about the race. I always get so nervous at this point.
Hayden ran a wonderful leg of the race.
They ended up getting 5th overall!
And they each got a medal!
And they got to stand on the podium.
We took a couple of guys home with us and it was pretty quiet on the way home. I felt bad for Hayden. I just want him as his happy, funny self. Finally by the end of the drive he was getting back to normal.
So one week later Eric and I were out at the Twilight meet watching our son and it's raining again! It also started hailing! This is nuts for May 4th!
Here's Hayden running the 100 and sadly, he did not do well again. He got a 12.20. :0(  He took 9th place overall out of 37 guys.
We always go right up to him after the races and hug him and talk to him.
Eric was trying to tease with him and encourage him. We always feel better when we can get him to laugh, which Eric did.
Now him and his friend, Josh, are preparing to race in the 400.
Hayden has run in the 4x400, but he's never ran in the 400 race alone and he decided to try it.
He's getting his blocks set up.
On your mark, get ready, get set.....
Wow, it's really raining now! He's doing great so far though!
Sweet! Finally a victory! Well, he got first in his heat, but he got 12th place out of 30 guys.
He got a 55.18. Not bad for his first time.
 He was wiped out.
And of course, it quit raining when he was done running! haha!  But we got this gorgeous rainbow to remind us of God's promise!
The poor guy was exhausted and slept on the way home in the car. He has the district track meet prelims  today. I am hoping that he will do his best and have fun out there. I sure hope and pray that he will come out of his slump.
Regardless, we will be proud of him no matter what!

"Our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! II Corinthians 4:17

"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance." Romans 5:3

"With God’s help we will do mighty things." Psalm 60:12

Hugs, Sharon
