This blog is simply the story about my little life
with my sweet family that the Lord has blessed me with
and the day in, day out things that we do.
It basically is my online diary/photo album of our life.
I'm glad you're here!

How I spent my 50th birthday!

I recently celebrated my 50th birthday and this is how I spent my day! I had an absolutely fabulous day! It started with my morning walk with my neighbor and friend, Shelley.
God gave me the most beautiful red sunrise! I couldn't believe how pretty it was.
After we got back home from our walk, Shelley came over with these beautiful flowers and a lovely card.
My birthday landed on a Friday this year and it was fun because Eric was off, Grayson was off and Hayden didn't go to school until 9:00, so we were all there together for breakfast that Eric made.
Grayson and Hayden in the morning. I love having them around!
The next thing I did was grab my cup of coffee and head down to the Presbyterian church rummage sale! They have two a year and it was today, on my birthday, just for me!!!
I love this amazing sale and never miss it. I actually went down there in all my glory without make-up, in my walking clothes and without my morning shower! I'm holding one of the treasures I found, it's an embroidered Christmas picture, it's so cute! I only paid .50 cents for it!
It was an added bonus to see my new friend, Peg, there. This is actually where we first met a few years ago!
I went back home and took my shower. I decided to take a picture of my 50 year old face in the raw, with no make-up, just to remember what I looked like at this age.
Then I got dressed and had Grayson take another picture outside with no make up on.
So folks, this is me at age 50. Notice that I'm not smiling too big to activate those crows feet!
Hayden had a football game that night which was out of town about two hours away. We never miss our kids games, so of course we went and to make it special for my birthday, Eric and I decided that we would spend the night there!
We didn't have time to stop for a nice lunch, so we just grabbed some Burger King. I was still on my diet, so I was a good girl and ordered a salad.
It was a lovely drive to the coast. I brought some of my good devotional books to read in the car.
We finally got to our destination and the weather was gorgeous!
We stayed in a fun vintage looking hotel that I'm thinking was probably built in the late 60s judging from the architecture. It has been updated though and it was really pretty.
We stopped briefly at a thrift store to do a little shopping, one of my favorite things to do!
After this we went to Penney's. For my birthday Eric is going to buy me some new nice perfume. I really would like to find my own signature scent. I have never spent the time to talk with a fragrance consultant and find a perfect perfume. I asked Eric if he would come with me to help me. Unfortunately, this Penney's does not carry fragrance, and we ran out of time, so we will come back to the mall in the morning and go to Macy's.
I did, however, find some lucky red and black argyle socks, which are the Bulldog team colors! Hee hee! I put them on in the car.
After that Eric and I went out for a special birthday dinner.
Mmmm! We had prime-rib and it was delicious! And in case you are wondering, yes, it is on my diet! :0)
We had to stop because Eric wanted to change into his jeans. We could not find a spot, so Eric pulled into a quiet parking lot of a business that was closed and he changed.
I looked over and saw a little deer walking in the grass! What an added bonus to my birthday!
Then we went to the game! Eric's eyes are half closed in this picture, but it's the only one I have from that night and I want to remember it. And actually, I think he looks kinda cute!
The bulldogs are doing great! It's half time and the team's walking into the locker room. Hayden just had two interceptions, so he was feeling happy!
We finally won the game! Oh my goodness, it was a total nail-biter! We were very evenly matched, and they had the ball with 30 seconds left. They threw a long bomb and Hayden was guarding the receiver, I was so nervous because if their guy would have caught it, they would have beat us, but guess what???? Hayden intercepted it and sealed the victory for us! It was so exciting! I asked him for a touchdown for my birthday, which he didn't get, but I will gladly take three interceptions instead, especially the one that saved the game!!!
The boys were so excited! This was their second win!
What a fun birthday night I had!
We looked over and saw a reporter interviewing Hayden! How cool is that! We had the sense of mind to ask him what newspaper he worked for and he told us that it was the local town paper. We were excited because since we were spending the night there, we could buy one in the morning!
After we said good-bye to Hayden, we decided to go the local casino.
We are not gamblers and we don't know what we are doing, but it was fun.
We won a little bit, but then we lost it again. We gave ourselves a $25.00 budget and once the money was gone, we were done gambling. We weren't there very long!
Back to or hotel room!
We were laughing because we found these two one-million dollar bills in our room! lol Too bad we didn't win these at the casino! Actually, they are neat little tracts about God!
Good morning! It's day two of my birthday! hee hee! What a great way to start the day with coffee in bed!
Eric's saying, hurry up, honey, I'm hungry! Let's go eat breakfast!
Okay, sweetie, I'm ready!
We enjoyed a very good breakfast with a view of the bay!
Time to hit the road again!
We drove by the bay and noticed all of the boats out there. They were having a salmon fishing derby going on.
It was such a pretty scene!
After that we stopped at the Ford company.
We looked at cars. We are ready to trade in our old one.
We have done some research and we really would like one of these. They are called the Ford Edge and they are really cute and sporty, yet economical.
After that, we headed towards the mall, but kept our eye open for a newspaper stand and we finally found one!
We bought the local paper and were so anxious to read about the game and to read Hayden's interview.
We were so proud of our son! The article quoted him a lot and he answered the questions so intelligently. Yes, we were very, very proud!
Next stop...Macy's! Time to find my new perfume! The lady at the counter was so helpful and informative. She helped me narrow it down to two, Oscar de la Renta and Bvlgari Blv (pronounced Bull-ga-rie Blue)
She had me spray one on one arm and one on the other and sent me out shopping for a bit (poor me! haha!). She asked me to keep sniffing each wrist and try to figure out which one I liked.
And the winner is.......drum roll please.......Bvlgari Blv!
My sweet husband also let me pick out some new clothes and jewelry. He got a few new things too! We had fun shopping!
After that we headed back home. We're having the kids over for tonight for my birthday dinner!
When we got home, I found this fun surprise in the mail!
It was a lovely birthday gift from a blogger friend, Mardell!
She sent me this adorable vintage children's party book and....
...and this sweet vintage advent calendar. Thank you so much Mardell for remembering me! You are so kind!
Eric made me a special birthday dinner of steak, barbecued onions and corn on the cob.
This is exactly how I wanted to spend my birthday.....
....with my family!
And this is one of my best gifts.....seeing my four boys hanging out and laughing together!
Happy 50th birthday to me!
I hope I get my wish! Wait a minute, I already have my wish! My loving family around me and the blessing of many friends!
Time to open presents!
Cameron and Hayden gave me a gift that I asked for and desperately need! It's a magnifying mirror so I can see to pluck my eyebrows! Heehee!
Mackenzie and Brittany gave me two lovely animal print scarves and some pretty earrings!
Grayson and Rachelle gave me a gift certificate to Bed, Bath and Beyond, a cute pink & white travel coffee mug and also....
....a head massager! Mackenzie is demonstrating it on my head. He's purposely trying to mess up my hair! I love the look on his face!
I just ignore him! It's my only defense! What a fun evening I had with my family! I feel very loved and cherished by them!
When I went to work on Monday, my co-worker, Sarah, gave me this gorgeous burnt orange mum! I love birthdays that last for three days!!! And actually, it will last a bit longer because I am having another big celebration in three weeks! I decided to throw myself a birthday lunch with all the special women who have been in my life. We are just meeting at a restaurant for a dutch luncheon. I'm really excited about it. I sent out invitations and said "no presents, your presence is my gift."

I feel very blessed with this life that the Lord has given me. So far, I have not felt sad or down at all about turning 50. I have lived all 50 of those years. I feel like I'm pretty much on target with where I thought I should be at this age. I do have some regrets, but not many. I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart, we have four wonderful sons and a beautiful daughter-in-law, I  have a loving extended family, many friends and a wonderful relationship with God. We have a beautiful home, I have a good job and we have fun a lot. I am very thankful and I am truly blessed!

"Since You are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of Your name lead and guide me. Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for You are my refuge. Into Your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God" Psalm 31:3-5

Hugs, Sharon

What a great birthday celebration...those celebrations with family are the best, aren't they?

Way to go on making the celebration last. I turned 60 in July, threw myself a 'surprise' party and am still celebrating.

Since the celebration goes on I'm not too late to wish you a happy birthday, am I?

Celebrate! Happy birthday!

Hi Sharon!
You certainly had a fun birthday this year. You look amazing with or without makeup! I love how you take pictures of all the details. That is so cool. I'm so glad that you had a wonderful 50th. How are you enjoying the perfume? I've been stuck in a rut for years, haven't changed mine in 20 something yrs. LOL I just bought some cool argyle socks at Walmart last week. I love them. So glad they came back in style. LOL (Not that I'm a fashionista or anything.) :o)

It's funny, when I'm out thrifting or garage saling, I'll see something and think, "oh, wouldn't Sharon love this?" LOL

Oh, and congrats to Hayden's 3 interceptions and winning the game. YAY!
